VIZ Steel protecting people from industrial risks
VIZ Steel (member of NLMK Group) has brought into operation the second stage of the complex of automated control over access to de-carburizarion annealing (DCA) facilities in the cold-rolling shop. The purpose of introducing this cutting-edge technology is the protection of operators from production-related hazards.
The access control system comprises a combination of blocking and interlocking devices, emergency stops, safety guards, video monitoring, sound and light alarms, etc.. Any unauthorized human access to a potentially hazardous area with moving parts will be detected by sensors triggering sound and light alarm, causing the system to disable the operating mechanisms.
VIZ Steel commenced the introduction of the automated safeguarding technology in 2015. The first stage was started up at the head parts of two DCA facilities. At the second stage, the rear ends of the lines were fitted with safeguards. Now this project is completed.
Total capex in this project was RUB 17.7 m.
“Maintaining the health of people and ensuring their safety at production sites is the underlying principle of NLMK Group companies. The introduction of a system controlling access to de-carburization annealing facilities has allowed VIZ Steel to raise process safety and prevent industrial hazards for its employees”, - says the manager for labour protection and industrial safety Nikolai Gubin, VIZ Steel.
