VIZ Steel commissioning the equipment for hi-tech product output
VIZ Steel (member of NLMK Group) has completed the first stage of upgrading its thermal treatment equipment for grain-oriented steel. Eight new batch-annealing furnace bases for high-temperature annealing (HTA) have been commissioned.
The new equipment which substitutes obsolete units will provide better reliability and durability of HTA furnaces and will also cut operating costs.
Batch annealing furnaces serve for annealing steel after cold rolling and coating it with magnesium oxide for heat resistance. The annealing takes 17 to 35 hours at up to 1,200 degrees C, depending on the steel grade. Annealing is one of the crucial technological stages in the production chain as it is during annealing that special magnetic properties of electrical steel are finally formed.
At the first stage of the HTA furnace project, 7% of all bases operated at VIZ Steel were replaced. The Company invested about RUB 26 m. The second project stage will last all 2017; at this stage 27 new bases will be installed, and their control system and gas pipe distribution system updated. The project's total capex will be about RUB 159 m.
“The upgrade of HTA furnaces is a long-range program. Our intention is to have forty new bases of batch annealing furnaces installed over the next five years. This project will allow a 35% renewal of this equipment to facilitate a better production efficiency of grain-oriented steel - one of the most sophisticated and high-technology steel products”, - claims Alexander Sergeev, head of department in Project Management.
