In August 1998 VIZ-Steel's Quality management system is certified by a British company Lloyd's Register to comply with ISO 9002:1994 standard.
The Company is founded in 1998 on the basis of Upper Iset plant, one of the oldest Russian enterprises of ferrous metallurgy, through separation of the electrical steel production units. Duferco Group, a Swiss company, becomes the strategic partner of the Company
VIZ-Steel is recognized as one of the best exporters in Russia in terms of growth in delivery volumes and the amount of revenue in 1998.
In May 1999, the Laboratory for Air and Water Protection and Industrial Ventilation is accredited for conducting industrial monitoring of the environment.
The tradition of competitions between the work teams is revived; “Regulation on Labour Rivalry” is adopted which is in effect to this day.
In July 2000 the cold rolling department reached the production level of eight thousand tonnes of steel per month, increasing the production by a third.
Mill 1300 of the cold rolling department is retrofitted with modern electrical equipment by Siemens. Upgrade of Mill 1200-1 and Mill 1200-2 is underway. European Bank for Reconstruction and Development becomes the partner of VIZ-Steel and invests five million US dollars in the charter capital of the Company.
20 June 2001 the five millionth tonne of steel is produced since the launch of the cold-rolled complex in 1973.
The Company introduces a new production technology of transformer steel with magnetically active coating. Planning and design department of the company gets licensed by Gosstroy of Russia.
New slitting and packaging unit is put into operation.
Production volumes have increased by 20% compare to the level of 2003. For the first time job openings are announced after a long break due to the increase in production volumes.
British Standards Institution (BSI) certifies the quality management system to comply with ISO 9001:2000 standard.
The Company masters the production of elite grain-oriented electrical steel (GOES)with a thickness of 0.23mm.
VIZ-Steel joins NLMK Group, a vertically integrated leading international producer of high-quality steel.
A large-scale technical upgrade and development programme is launched at VIZ-Steel. The programme is aimed at mastering of new promising types of products, improving the quality of produced steel and streamlining operational efficiency.
VIZ Steel wins the contest of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs "Best Russian Enterprises 2007" in the category "Organization with the Best Profitability.” VIZ Steel wins federal contest "Customs Olympus - 2008" in the category "The Leader of Russian Foreign Trade.”
The first stage of the laser processing facility with the capacity of 30 thousand tonnes per year is put into operation. The introduction of transformer steel laser processing technology has allowed improving the magnetic properties of steel by 10-12%.
A new line (Herkules, Germany) for cutting rollers that apply heat-resistant and insulating coatings in horizontal furnaces and rectifying annealing units is put into operation. The machine has improved the quality of produced metal due to high precision rollers processing, including the coating with advanced materials of various strength and increased abrasion resistance.
VIZ-Steel wins the contest "Business Laureates - the Ural Stars 2010" in the category "The Best Enterprise of Sverdlovsk Region in Terms of Social and Economic Indicators" and wins the main award "Star of the Urals" for outstripping the competition for the third year in a row.
VIZ-Steel starts the production of GOES grades of 0.23-0.35mm thickness with a decreased level of idle losses by 5-10% for high-efficiency transformers.
VIZ-Steel wins the contest "Business Laureates - the Ural Stars 2011" in the category "The Best Enterprise of Sverdlovsk Region in Terms of Social and Economic Indicators” four years in a row.
A new complex of high-temperature annealing furnaces “LOI” is put into operation. The project has helped to improve the quality of products and more than halve the energy consumption per tonne of output at the cooling stage. VIZ-Steel receives state Certificate of Trust to the Employer, confirming the company's status as a leader in the field of enforcement of labour laws.
The second stage of the laser processing facility with the capacity of 45 thousand tonnes is put into operation. The additional module has improved the production of grain-oriented electrical steel (GOES) with lower specific magnetic losses.
The Company introduces an automated system of integrated production management based on advanced PSImetals 5 software for systematic and advanced control over manufacturing and business processes.
The introduction of the effective logistic scheme of steel coils shipment in large containers has reduced transportation costs as well as the likelihood of damage to the coils in the process of loading and unloading.
British Standards Institution (BSI) certifies the Energy Management System for compliance with the international standard ISO 50001-2012.
Reversing cold-rolling mill with the capacity of 75 thousand tonnes per year is put into operation.
The Laboratory for Air and Water Protection and Industrial Ventilation is accredited by Rosakkreditatsiya Federal Service for compliance with the national standard and included in the Register of Bodies for Certification and Accreditation of Testing Laboratories.
VIZ-Steel launches the production of a new premium grade of GOES with improved magnetic properties and reduced levels of specific power losses by 5-15% in comparison with commercial grades of other transformer steel producers.
The natural gas reforming plant has been put into operation. Thanks to the introduction of the new technology instead the energy consuming electrolysis method, it is possible to use 30 times less power for hydrogen production and to reduce the annual energy consumption by 75 mln kW-hr p.a.
The ecological project of VIZ-Steel (Company of NLMK Group) for solid waste utilization (magniferous sludge) in the construction industry won the "100 best enterprises of Russia. Ecology and eco-management" competition in the category "Project of the year".
The new grades of steels are designed for manufacturers of energy-efficient transformers, including those featuring stranded magnetic conductors, that are cost-efficient and easy to manufacture, and are widely used in individual housing construction. Advanced grades of transformer steel, namely NV23S-100, NV27S-105, NV30S-110 0.23 to 0.30 mm with improved consumer properties can boast 5-10% lower specific magnetic losses vs. commercial grades of electrical steels from other global manufacturers.
