Biodiversity conservation
NLMK Group assesses the biodiversity of adjacent territories at early stages of project development and implementation. The Company does not carry out any production activities in specially protected natural areas or on world heritage site territory.
NLMK Group’s measures to conserve the biodiversity of the areas where it operates include:
- Cooperation with specially protected natural areas;
- Offsetting any harm done to aquatic biological resources;
- Planting tree seedlings.

Stoilensky
By the end of 2020, specialists of the Belogorye State Nature Reserve will compile a list of flora and fauna species in the Chufichka river floodplain, where the site’s main dam is located, and in the forests adjacent to the site. The research effort will continue in 2021, and actions for environment reproduction and biodiversity conservation will be developed as a follow-up.
Altai-Koks
In 2020, Altai-Koks released 27,000 juvenile carp fish into the Verkhneobsk Basin within a radius of 30 km from Barnaul as part of its offset activities.
NLMK Group
In 2019–2020, 140,000 tree seedlings were planted at NLMK Group sites. A major project was launched at NLMK Lipetsk to refresh the 1,000 hectares of green spaces located on the site.

In 2020, NLMK Group invested approximately RUB 4 million into biodiversity research and conservation, including offset activities.
